Quest for Life Beyond Earth\
09/25/2022
Gordon Walker

Presentation by Gordon Walker. Speculation that there may be many other Earths and solar systems in the Universe goes back to the time of the Greeks and has posed serious challenges to religious belief. Within the last fifty years, astronomers have developed techniques sensitive enough to put that speculation to the test. We now have evidence for thousands of extra-solar planets in our galaxy and of conditions suitable for life on these planets. Gordon Walker holds a Ph.D. in astrophysics from Cambridge University and is Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia. His laboratory has produced some of the first digital detection systems for space based telescopes.
