Our community is investing more than ever in responding to the homelessness crisis, but the problem seems to be getting worse. Marc Jolin, Director of the City/County Joint Office of Homeless Services discusses the causes of homelessness, our local strategies to address the problem, and how individuals and organizations can be part of the solution. Marc Jolin has more than 25 years of experience working on homelessness issues. He has degrees in political science, sociology, and law.
Laurent Beauregard introduces a video about Martin Gardner. one of the most beloved personalities in the areas of recreational mathematics, magic and puzzles. Gardner’s works range over the fields of science, mathematics, philosophy, literature, and conjuring. He has inspired and enlightened three generations of readers with the delights of mathematical recreations, magic, puzzles, and the play of ideas.
Keri Capen presents an introduction to parliamentary procedure including a history of Robert’s Rules, and a discussion of the most common types of motions made in meetings. Ms. Capen is a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians. She is active with the Democratic Party of Oregon, serving on the state’s Rules Committee. She also works at the Willamette Humane Society as Thrift Store Manager.
Rebecca Jenkins presents an introduction to current developments in cellular agriculture. This innovative technology can revolutionize our food system with positive effects on humans, animals, and global climate change. But will it happen? Ms. Jenkins was born in Ireland. She has a passion for social justice and animal rights. She studied Law at Trinity College Dublin and at Lewis & Clark Law School where she now works. Her scholarly interests include animal law, social justice, and food policy.
