Al Christians hosts this event at Friendly House. "We present for your entertainment a flurry of talent -- drawn from the membership of HGP. This includes music from a variety of genres, along with some novelties."
Sunday mornings 10:00-11:30AM at the Friendly House Community Center, main entrance on the SW corner of NW 26th and Thurman. Street parking is available if you are driving.
Programs are presented in four broad areas relevant to Humanism:
Human Well Being
Science and Reason
Secularism
Humanities, Culture, and Morality
Our weekly meetings are our primary contact point for members and visitors. They feature presentations on a diversity of topics of interest to HGP’s members, ranging from poetry to international politics, from the exploration of outer space to the inner workings of the local community.
Our programs are free and open to the public.
Speakers are drawn from area universities, cultural institutions, activist organizations, and in many cases, from our own membership. Several meetings each year are reserved for small group discussions or other activities.
We also often hold a concurrent discussion group in the building on a timely topic.
“Early Bird” discussions can also often be found before the main program.
Many of our past programs can be viewed in our Vimeo recordings.
Some programs have featured book recommendations by HGP members.
Families are welcome at HGP
Parents with young children are encouraged to go to the East Room for a simulcast of the main program on Sunday mornings. It's a large, carpeted room with adult-sized chairs, tables, and plenty of floor space. Toys, games, and quiet activities for the kids are available. After the program, parents and children are welcome to mingle with HGP members and other parents in our AfterThoughts room for conversation and snacks. It's best to check with us to be sure the simulcast is available on the dates you'd like to attend. Just click on "questions" on the "contact us" tab for a reply.
