About This Program

About 15,000 years ago, huge floods broke from gigantic ice dams in Montana and raced to the Pacific Ocean with flow rates ten times greater than all the rivers of the world today. Come, follow this 75-minute photo journey, learn about these powerful floods and the way they shaped the landscape in much of the Pacific Northwest including the Columbia River Gorge, Portland, and the Willamette Valley.

Bob Setterberg, a life-long resident of Oregon, has been a volunteer at the Oregon Historical Society for 20 years as both as a member of the Oregon Historical Society Community Speakers Bureau and a Volunteer Museum Educator. He has given hundreds of presentations on Oregon history out in the community and has conducted more than 400 museum tours at OHS. His mantra is, "History is not only a study of the past, it is also an explanation of the present."
