Activities
Beyond Sunday programs, HGP offers discussion groups, social events, book clubs, and community engagement opportunities throughout the year.
Beyond our weekly Sunday programs, the Humanists of Greater Portland offer a variety of ways to connect with fellow humanists and engage with the community.
Discussion Groups
Afterthoughts — an informal discussion group that meets after Sunday programs to continue the conversation over coffee.
Additional groups meet regularly on topics including applying humanism to daily life, surviving religion, and current science. Check our calendar for current offerings.
Book Groups
Members organize book groups to read and discuss works relevant to humanist values, philosophy, science, and social issues.
Social Events
Members organize potlucks, walks, and other social gatherings throughout the year — a great way to meet fellow humanists in a relaxed setting.
Community Support
HGP maintains an ongoing program to collect food and clothing for those in need. Members are encouraged to bring donations to Sunday programs.
Sunday Programs
Our main weekly gathering is the Sunday morning program — a speaker presentation followed by discussion, coffee, and socializing at Friendly House.
