About This Program
From FH. In recent years, the LGBTQ+ community has faced hostile legislation and harmful rhetoric, with the current political climate specifically impacting LGBTQ+ older adults. Alex Maresca of Friendly House (FH) explains how FH Elder Pride Services works to address the impacts of this historic and on-going discrimination of this population, including the history of anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination, barriers to healthy aging, and how FH Elder Pride Services works to address these challenges. Alex (she/they), PhD Sociology from UC Irvine, is the program's Training, Advocacy, and Outreach Specialist. She also researched challenges to conversion therapy, and serves as Secretary for the Oregon Queer History Collective.
